Front door and porch
One lantern either side of the door, or a single one on the hinge side, on a dusk-to-dawn sensor so it is simply on when it is dark. On stone houses in Horsforth, Rawdon, Bramhope and Adel the challenge is the cable route — we drill through and cable internally so there is no surface conduit across the stonework, as in the photos here. From £110 per light installed.
Driveway and garage
Soffit downlights along a garage or the front of the house give even light across the drive without glare, and look far better than a floodlight. The detached garage in our gallery has four soffit downlights on a photocell. Pair them with a PIR near the door if you want a security element. Soffit downlights from £45 each; PIR security light from £130.
Garden and patio
Low-voltage garden lighting — spike spots in borders, small uplighters on trees and walls, step lights — runs off a transformer inside and can be extended easily. Warm white, kept low, and on a switch or timer inside. A six-light garden circuit from £450.
The practical bits
Everything outside must be IP-rated for the location and on an RCD-protected circuit. Cables must be SWA or in suitable conduit where they can be damaged. We plan the route with you, make good afterwards and test the circuit. Outdoor lighting is a year-round job for us; see the lighting installation service or the prices page.
